Preparation is most of the job

Roof coatings only last when they're applied to a clean, sound surface. That starts with a thorough clean to remove dirt, moss and lichen, followed by treatment to slow regrowth. Then comes a primer or sealer suited to the roof material, and finally the topcoats.

While we're up there we look closely at the roof. If we see cracked tiles, rust or other issues that should be fixed before painting, we'll tell you straight rather than painting over them.

Tile and metal roofs

Concrete tile roofs are porous and need sealing before they're painted. Older metal roofs that have faded or started to oxidise need any rust treated and the right primer before recoating. We use coatings made specifically for roofs, not wall paint.

Colour and heat

Roof colour makes a real difference to how hot a home gets in a Queensland summer. Lighter roof colours reflect more of the sun's heat. If keeping the house cooler matters to you, we'll talk through colour options before you choose.

Will painting fix a leaking roof?

No. Paint protects and refreshes the surface, but leaks usually come from cracked tiles, flashings or fixings that need repairing first. We'll point out anything we see.

Does a newer metal roof need painting?

Generally not. Pre-finished metal roofs are designed to last for years. Painting makes sense once the original finish has faded, chalked or started to deteriorate.

Do I need to be home while you work?

Not usually. We'll just need access to the property and somewhere safe to set up.
