Why exterior paint fails early

Peeling, chalking and flaking paint is rarely the paint's fault. It's usually paint applied over dirt, mould, loose old coatings or bare timber that was never primed. On the coast, salt residue on walls is another common culprit.

That's why every exterior job starts with a proper wash, then scraping back anything loose, sanding edges smooth, filling cracks and gaps, treating mould and priming bare or repaired areas. Only then do the topcoats go on.

Every kind of surface

Sunshine Coast homes are a mix of timber weatherboard Queenslanders, rendered and bagged brick, face brick, fibre cement sheeting and modern lightweight cladding. Each needs a different approach and a different product. We'll match the system to the surface rather than using one paint for everything.

Older fibre cement (fibro) on homes built before 1990 can contain asbestos. It can usually be painted safely, but it must not be sanded aggressively or high-pressure cleaned. We'll check what you have and prepare it the right way.

Colour in full sun

Very dark colours look striking but absorb more heat and can fade faster in strong sun. If you love a darker look, we'll talk about where it works best and what products help it last.

When is the best time of year to paint outside?

Dry, mild weather is ideal, so the cooler months often suit exterior work on the Sunshine Coast. That said, we paint year-round and simply plan around rain and the hottest part of the day.

How often should an exterior be repainted?

It varies with exposure, colour and how well the last job was prepared. Walls facing the afternoon sun or the ocean usually need attention sooner. Signs it's time include chalky walls, fading, cracking or peeling.

Will you paint the roof as well?

Yes, we offer roof painting too. Doing the roof and walls together can make sense, but it isn't required.
